In the first days of October, the Bulgarian Marin Grigorov swam around the New York island of Manhattan. The water route is 47 km long and is known as the "20 bridges". It is the world's longest regulated one-day open water swim. Similar swimming tours of Manhattan have been done since 2016.
This year, a total of 104 swimmers from different countries were competing in it. Every weekend, 4 participants are given the opportunity to try to circumnavigate the island. Among them was Bulgaria's Marin Grigorov born in the town of Petrich, Southwestern Bulgaria.
So Marin decided to put himself to the test by signing up to participate in "20 Bridges".
"Exactly this tour of Manhattan and these 20 bridges is not just a race, but an incredible experience", says Marin Grigorov. "You can imagine Manhattan, which is, I would say, the most interesting city in the world, and at one point you have the opportunity to swim around it. And as you swim, pass under 20 bridges and look at all these beautiful tall buildings on the water side."
