European Gymnastics Congress votes against the return of Russia and Belarus to competitions

At a meeting in Sofia, the European Gymnastics Congress voted against the return of athletes from Russia and Belarus to international competitions from 1 January 2024.

The organisation said in a statement that it disagreed with the decision by the International Gymnastics Federation (FIG) to allow gymnasts from both countries to compete again from the beginning of next year.

Russian and Belarusian gymnasts have been banned from international competition since March 2022 due to the conflict in Ukraine. Only neutral participants from Russia and Belarus are allowed to compete in international events - without their national flag and anthem.
