Grigor Dimitrov dropped out in the third round of the Australian Open after losing in 4 sets (7-6, 4-6, 2-6, 6-7) to Nuno Borges, Portugal, who is 69th in the world rankings. Dimitrov only demonstrated class in his performance during the first set of the match, which lasted over three hours.

The loss suffered by Grigor Dimitrov puts an end to the Bulgarian participation in the first Grand Slam tournament for the year, after Viktoriya Tomova too lost - to Elina Svitolina, Ukraine.
