Daily Express about Sofia: underrated but beautiful and one of the most walkable cities in Europe

Sofia is the third least expensive capital city in Europe. It is one of the most walkable European cities, yet it is so underrated, says the Sunday edition of the Daily Express. The article gives a detailed description of Sofia and its tourist attractions.

"Sofia in west Bulgaria sits on the River Iskar and at the skirts of Vitosha mountain. It is the fourth largest city in Europe," writes the author Grace Piercy, adding that the city is often "is often overlooked by tourists who prefer the nation's ski resorts and beaches," but concluding that "Sofia is well worth a visit."

One of the attractive features of the Bulgarian capital is its pedestrian-friendly layout, which makes it pleasant to stroll around.

"The area where most of the attractions are is relatively compact and then there are interesting neighbourhoods branching out from there," the article reads further. "Among its most popular sights are Aleksander Nevski Cathedral, Sofia City Garden, the ancient Serdica complex and Sveta Sofia Church. Also among the must-see tourist spots are the Red Flat (a preserved communist-era flat), the National Palace of Culture, Boyana Church and the Archaeological Museum."

Cheap accommodation is another major advantage of Sofia as a tourist destination, according to the Daily Express article.
"The cost of accommodation is around €41.90 (£36) per person per night. There are also 112 places rated four and five stars for nightlife," the author writes, citing research by Slot.Day, which analysed the quality of nightlife in cities and the cost of accommodation. "Sofia has several places to stay, including hotels, Airbnbs, hostels and holiday lets. And those wanting to visit can fly direct from London and Birmingham."
