Bulgarian women chess players start with victories at the Olympiad in Budapest

The Bulgarian women's national chess team and 2023 European chess champions won their first round games against Zimbabwe at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest, Hungary. All four Bulgarian representatives - Nurgul Salimova, Victoria Radeva, Beloslava Krasteva and Gergana Peycheva - defeated their opponents. Salimova defeated Kudzanayi Charinda, Radeva - Christine Makwena, Krusteva - Linda Dalitso Shaba and Peycheva - Colletta Wakuruwarewa 4-0. The Bulgarians are ranked 13th at the Chess Olympiad in Budapest. 

In the men's event, the Bulgarian national team is ranked 24th. In the first round they won three games against Pakistan 3.5-0.5. Ivan Cheparinov, Momchil Petkov and Grigor Grigorov defeated Khalid Mafaaz, Fayzan Momin and Iqbal Mudasir, while Martin Petrov drew his match against Karim Amer.

The Chess Olympiad has 11 rounds.
