MPs face seventh failed attempt to elect Parliamentary Speaker

In a record-long session lasting 18 days, Bulgarian MPs made a seventh failed attempt to elect a speaker of the National Assembly. After several breaks and a re-vote for the oldest MP, Silvi Kirilov from “There Is Such a People" (ITN), only a few were not enough for a positive result for Kirilov.
Before the vote, Bozhdirar Bozhanov announced that “Democratic Bulgaria,” part of the PP-DB coalition, would support Silvi Kirilov’s candidacy once and for all in order for the parliament to begin its work. He explained that his party would submit a bill that would provide the president with more opportunities to elect a caretaker prime minister. The other reason is the expiration of the term for electing a prosecutor general and the need to adopt the state budget for next year.

Earlier today, the political forces again nominated the candidates proposed in the previous votes – Raya Nazaryan from GERB-SDS, Petar Petrov from Vazrazhdane, Natalia Kiselova from “BSP – United Left” and Silvi Kirilov from “There is Such a People”. Raya Nazaryan and Silvi Kirilov reached the run-off.
