Caretaker Prime Minister Dimitar Glavchev has once again confirmed Bulgaria's position on the accession of the Republic of North Macedonia to the EU. The topic was discussed in a telephone conversation between Glavchev and President of the European Council Antonio Costa before the regular meeting of the European Council on December 19.

"With non-European behavior, European results cannot be achieved," the Prime Minister pointed out. He added that Bulgaria supports the European integration of the Republic of North Macedonia, but in compliance with the Treaty of Friendship, Good-Neighbourliness and Cooperation between the two countries from 2017. Glavchev was firm that there is complete unanimity on the topic in Bulgarian society and that no Bulgarian prime minister would support a position different from the one officially adopted by the National Assembly. "Bulgaria remains committed to the European perspective of the region, but it is necessary for differences to be overcome through constructive dialogue and mutual respect," Glavchev also said.
