Citizens protest in support of the Blue Stones Nature Park

Environmentalists protested in front of the Ministry of Environment and Water against plans to reduce the area of the Blue Stones Nature Park and the creation of settlements. According to the environmentalists, if construction in the park is not stopped, the population of 50% of the butterflies and orchids in Bulgaria will be at risk. 

Yordanka Dineva from the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation warned that an entire ecosystem would be threatened. According to Yordanka Dineva, 25% of the existing accommodation in the areas is being used, and the rest can be renovated, so there would be no need for new construction. ''The park is mainly known for its birds, its herbaceous plants, its beech forests and its butterflies'', Yordanka Dineva pointed out. "50% of the butterflies and orchids in Bulgaria can be seen only there", said Yordanka Dineva.
