The seasonal flu epidemic is retreating

The flu epidemic is retreating. Last week there were 190 per 1,000 cases, now they are down to 133 per 1,000, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev, former director of the National Center for Infectious and Parasitic Diseases, said in an interview with bTV.

The flu strains now circulating are not filling hospital wards, as was the case last year, though there are still a lot of cases, Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev said further. There are coronavirus cases still, though they account for under 1% of all tests conducted. With children, the situation is also improving, and the reason for this is that measures were put in place in the system of education in time, Prof. Kantardzhiev said, and added that there now exists collective immunity, as is always the case at the end of any epidemic.
