Restaurateurs from around the country are holding a national meeting today in Veliko Tarnovo to discuss taking measures to protect the differentiated 9% VAT rate for catering establishments, BNR’s correspondent in Veliko Tarnovo Zdravka Maslyankova reports.

According to the draft budget of Bulgaria, which is yet to be approved by the National Assembly, the 9% VAT for the catering establishments put in place during the Covid pandemic is to be scrapped, and the previous 20% VAT - restored. Restaurateurs say that raising the VAT rate will push up the prices of their services, expand the share of the grey sector, lead to bankruptcies and to unemployment.
