President Radev: Drug use by young people endangers our nation

Bulgaria's President Rumen Radev convened today a meeting of the National Security Advisory Council, dedicated to the risks and threats to national security arising from the spread of narcotic and intoxicating substances among the younger generation and their abuse.

"The spread and use of drugs by young people does not just endanger their future and health. This is an issue that threatens our future as a nation," the president said after the meeting. The head of state pointed out that the participants in the council had united around specific legislative measures, the need for prevention, and programs aimed at young people's free time.

"The state should come down with all its might on those selling and distributing drugs," Radev called.

Almost 13% of Bulgaria's population has used some kind of drug at least once. 

Over the past 5 years, the use of these substances has increased significantly - by 30%, according to a study by the National Center for Public Health.
