Pharmacists have opposed the plan to make all-electronic prescriptions the only valid option in pharmacies from April 1, calling it "premature." The position was discussed at a conference attended by representatives of the Bulgarian Medical Association and the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Pharmacy.
"We have ongoing issues with communication between systems, and this has a direct impact on patient care. We believe that the hybrid model is a workable mechanism that will ensure that we do not turn away patients," said Adelina Liubenova, chair of the Master Pharmacists' Initiative Committee.
Pharmacists said the technical unpreparedness could lead to chaos and patients being sent back.
