A state of disaster has been declared in the Montana village of Lehchevo, Boychinovtsi municipality, after torrential rain last night, which flooded houses and led to the evacuation of residents. Two women, aged 70 and 93, were trapped in a water trap and were rescued by boat.

“The situation is dangerous, not to mention tragic. In about 40 minutes, over 80 liters per square meter of rain fell,” said Mayor Alexander Alexandrov.

“Over eighty houses have been flooded, animals have drowned, people are scared, as they have never seen such an amount of rain before,” said Acting Mayor of Boychinovtsi Tanya Petrova.

Torrential rain also fell on other villages in the area. In the neighboring village of Kobylyak, the ground floors of several houses were flooded. Heavy rainfall also caused damage in the Vidin and Vratsa districts.
