Kozloduy NPP operation unhindered by the low water levels in the Danube

In recent weeks, the low level of the Danube has not impacted the normal operation of Bulgaria's sole nuclear power plant, Kozloduy, which comprises two units. This information was announced in a press release by the plant.

On 4 July 2025, the water level at the plant was measured at 21.5 metres, which is 53 centimetres higher than the 20.97 metres recorded in late summer 2003.

To ensure the reliable operation of the units, Kozloduy NPP has its own shore pumping station equipped with 34 powerful pumps. The plant stressed that the facility was designed to provide water even at the lowest ever recorded river level, based on data from a century of Danube studies.
