A student protest titled "Education is a Right, Not a Privilege!" will take place at 6:00 PM on July 9 in front of the Rectorate building of the Sofia University ''St. Kliment Ohridski''. The protest is in response to the increased tuition fees for students in higher education institutions.
“We, the students of the Faculty of Law at Sofia University, oppose the decision to drastically raise semester fees. We refuse to accept a reality in which, starting this fall, many of our peers may be unable to cross the threshold of the university simply because they cannot afford tuition fees that are twice as high. In some faculties, the increase reaches up to 200%. We are taking to the streets because we don’t want to be denied the opportunity to receive quality education, to stay in Bulgaria, to work for its prosperity and to build our future here — in our homeland”, the organizers said, as quoted by BTA.
