Italian investors have shown interest in the concession and development of Plovdiv Airport as a passenger and cargo terminal. This became clear during a meeting between Plovdiv District Governor Hristina Yancheva and the Ambassador of Italy to Bulgaria, Marcello Apicella.
An Italian company is preparing a project to create intermodal terminals aimed at making logistics between Bulgaria and European markets more efficient and sustainable. Professor Yancheva noted that the launch of the new direct airline between Plovdiv and Milan is eagerly anticipated, as it will support tourism and business exchange between the two countries, reported BTA.
The government has included Plovdiv Airport in the Updated Action Plan for State Concessions. This is the third attempt by the state to find a strategic investor for the airport.
