Bulgarian students earn 4 medals at the International Physics Olympiad in Paris

Bulgarian students won four bronze medals and one honorable mention at the 2025 International Physics Olympiad held in Paris, the Ministry of Education and Science announced. More than 400 students from 85 countries participated in the prestigious competition, which consists of two rounds — an experimental and a theoretical part.

The Bulgarian team was represented by five students: Hristo Hristov from the Sofia High School of Mathematics ''Paisiy Hilendarski'', Iliya Nikov from ''Vasil Drumev'' High School of Mathematics and Science-Veliko Tarnovo, Petar Petrov and Svetoslav Arabov from the High School of Mathematics ''Dr Petar Beron'' – Varna and Alexander Nikolov from the First Private High School of Mathematics-Sofia. Hristo, Iliya, Alexander and Svetoslav earned the four bronze medals, while Petar received an honorable mention for his performance.

The International Physics Olympiad has been held since 1967 at the initiative of five countries- Bulgaria, Poland, Czechoslovakia, Hungary and Romania. Since then, Bulgaria has participated in every edition and has won a total of 150 medals.
