Sanction-threatened NIS sells its gas stations in Bulgaria

Serbian oil and gas company Naftna industrija Srbije (NIS) announced that its board of directors has approved the sale of the company's subsidiary NIS Petrol Bulgaria. NIS has a network of 23 gas stations in Bulgaria under the Gazprom brand.

In the first half of 2025, NIS held 2.6% of the fuel market in Bulgaria, investor.bg reports. Earlier this year, NIS said that it was considering exiting Bulgaria and Romania due to the difficulties it faced in the markets. Due to Russia's war in Ukraine, NIS, which is predominantly Russian-owned, is threatened by international sanctions.
