Bulgaria has officially become part of the European cultural route “The Wine Route” (Iter Vitis). The certificate of membership was presented to Tourism Minister Miroslav Borshosh, recognizing the country’s inclusion in a network of leading European destinations dedicated to preserving and promoting wine heritage.

Joining the Council of Europe-certified route gives Bulgaria access to a platform that supports wine tourism, protects vineyard landscapes, and promotes European wine culture. The move also opens opportunities for international recognition, joint initiatives, and stronger positioning of Bulgarian wine regions in Europe.

Agriculture and Food Minister Georgi Takhov highlighted that the route will help Bulgaria’s unique wines reach a wider audience. “There are 88 professional wineries in Bulgaria, and 54 wines already hold protected geographical indications at the European level,” he said
