The European Commission has warned Bulgaria that it could face a penalty procedure for violation of European rules on providing conditions for accommodation of refugees in this country. The Commission wants the Bulgarian government to give its opinion on the matter in the next two months. If the response was unsatisfactory, the Commission could ask the EU Court of Justice to start legal proceedings against Bulgaria. Furthermore, the next phase in another infringement procedure against Bulgaria that started in January 2014, has already begun. This country has not yet formally introduced into national law the European directive for granting refugee status to certain groups of citizens that come from countries outside the EU.
