After the terrorist attacks Friday night, which took the lives of over 140 people in Paris, French President Francois Hollande announced a state of emergency. During a special security meeting on Sunday he called the attacks "a horror" and vowed to mercilessly fight terrorism. Unprecedented measures including closing the borders were taken immediately after the attacks. Thousands of troops guard buildings and schools across the country and Paris citizens were asked to stay indoors. The attacks come less than a year after the massacre in satirical magazine Charlie Hebdo. World leaders have expressed their shock and condolences to the French people.
