By lighting candles in their homes, the Armenian community in Bulgaria paid tribute to a million and a half Armenians who lost their lives during the persecution and mass extermination in the Ottoman Empire 105 years ago.

Every year, on 24 April, Armenians from all over the world organize vigils and processions. Because of the state of emergency today all events have been cancelled.

There are around 12,000 Bulgarians of Armenian origin living in this country. The Armenian community in Sofia published a video with a message of gratitude to Bulgaria for accepting the thousands of Armenian refugees, their own forefathers. In it, famous Armenians express gratitude for Bulgarians’ empathy and support.
