Bulgaria’s authorities launch inspections at winter tourism complexes

Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism Mariana Nikolova is expected to launch inspections at winter tourism complexes to check whether they are ready for the forthcoming tourist season. Minister Nikolova is to check whether these facilities have created the necessary conditions to comply with the anti-epidemic measures approved by this country’s health authorities and the Ministry of Tourism. Compliance with the health regulations is one of the key conditions for this country to keep the Safety and Hygiene Travel Stamp issued by the World Travel and Tourism Council (WTTC). It guarantees that Bulgaria is a safe destination for travel and tourism and that this country strictly observes the anti-epidemic measures, Bulgaria’s Ministry of Tourism announced.

Tourism Minister: We are looking for ways to avoid closure of borders

Tourism remains the worst affected sector by the coronavirus crisis. “We are not going to talk about strong winter tourist season as we are expecting a 70% decline in this sector”, Bulgaria’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism Mariana Nikolova said in an interview for BNR. Minister Nikolova announced that she has been talking with counterparts from neighboring countries to look for ways to avoid closure of borders. Deputy Premier Nikolova reminded that for the purpose the Bulgarian authorities have already held working meetings with Turkey’s Minister of Culture and Tourism Mehmet Ersoy, as well as with the Ambassadors of Greece, Romania and Serbia to Bulgaria. A conversation with North Macedonia’s Ambassador to Sofia is also to be held.

Bulgaria reports 2,301 new cases of Covid-19

2,301 new cases of Covid-19 have been confirmed in Bulgaria in the past 24 hours out of 8,702 PCR tests performed. 26.44% of all PCR tests returned positive. The highest number of new infections was registered in Sofia-853, followed by Varna-271, Plovdiv-144 and Burgas-128 new cases, data of the Single Information Portal show. 3,715 patients are receiving treatment in hospitals, 271 of whom in intensive care units. 56 patients have died and 369 people have recovered in the past 24 hours. There are 49,048 active cases of Covid-19. A total of 2,981 medics have been diagnosed with Covid-19 until now. 80 medics have tested positive for Covid-19 in the past 24 hours.

Police organize protest demanding higher salaries

Police officers protested in Sofia in the afternoon of November 8 celebrated as Bulgarian Police Day. They are demanding 30% pay rise in the system of the Ministry of Interior. Their discontent was caused by a decree issued by the Council of Ministers which envisages a 30% pay rise for people employed at 28 administrations in Bulgaria. Meanwhile, the 2021 draft budget envisages that Bulgaria’s Police Officers are to receive 15% pay rise as of next year.
