Trade union to organize rally in defense of Maritsa East TPP

With a rally and a march, one of the major trade unions in Bulgaria, the Podkrepa Confederation of Labour, intends to submit to the Council of Ministers a petition in defense of Maritsa East thermal power plant. It requires adequate action by the state to protect the plant. This was announced in Burgas byb the union leader Dimitar Manolov

The petition has been backed by more than 100,000 people in the Stara Zagora, Yambol and Sliven districts. The petition calls for a revision of the state energy policy towards the thermal power plant.
There are 14,000 people directly employed in the Maritsa East complex four thermal power plants and the mines, and a total of 130 thousand are employed in activities related to coal mining and energy generation in Maritsa East.
The rally is scheduled for mid-October. Thousands of miners and power engineers are expected to join.
