European Commissioner for budget and administration Johannes Hahn is meeting with Bulgaria’s Prime Minister Nikolay Denkov, and with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mariya Gabriel on Thursday in Sofia.
The visit is part of his European tour as the adjustments to the EU’s long-term budget are about to be announced. The details are expected to be clear by 20 June, Dnevnik writes. Bulgaria is Commissioner Hahn’s third stopover after Latvia and Austria.
The European Commission is to present, next week, its view of the review of the EU’s long-term budget until 2027. On 7 June, the Commission stated the EU’s expenditure was on the brink of its budget capacity because of the high inflation, the rise in the cost of servicing the debt assumed for financing the Covid-19 recovery and development programmes, and the unforeseen resources for the support for Ukraine.
