Illegal credit, granted to Rumen Gaitanski company and used to buy Varna TPP, under investigation

The prosecutor’s office, the anti-corruption commission and the police are conducting searches of property belonging to Rumen Gaitanski, a.k.a. the Wolf in Sofia. In Kardzhali, searches are underway of companies connected with the former mayor Hasan Azis. Investigators are also searching premises connected with the former director of the Bulgarian Development Bank (BDB) Stoyan Mavrodiev, the BNR reports.The investigation is of a EUR 74.3 million loan granted by the BDB, the prosecutor’s office told the Bulgarian news agency BTA. On 9 August, the anti-corruption commission announced there was reasonable suspicion of violations in the granting of the loan by the BDB which has caused significant damage to the state. The credit was granted to the company Roadway Construction which is connected with Rumen Gaitanski. Part of the credit was used to finance the acquisition of Varna thermal power plant by the honorary chairman of the Movement for Rights and Freedoms Ahmed Dogan.
