Terminal 2 has been modernised and expanded to include a new Gate Garden, which bgtourism.bg reports is the first fully equipped open-air gate area in Europe.

This innovative project increases the terminal’s area by over 2,000 square meters and boosts the capacity for departing passengers by 40%. According to a post on the airport’s Facebook page, this will enable the airport to handle more than 3.5 million passengers annually.

The Gate Garden includes three new gates that can be adapted for both Schengen and non-Schengen traffic.
