Activists from the organization “Invisible Animals” and citizens committed to the cause are submitting a petition to the National Assembly, signed by over 110,000 people and demanding a ban on calf caging. They are calling for a legislative ban on this approach and a transition to modern and more natural group farming for animals.
“From its very birth the calf is separated from its mother. It is thrown into a small cage, barely bigger than itself. It is a baby. It needs playing, socialization, space. Instead, it is pushed into a concrete cell or between iron bars. Hour after hour. Day after day. Week after week and month after month. In loneliness and fear between the same four walls, from which there is no escape.” says activist Stefan Dimitrov, quoted by BTA.
According to "Invisible Animals", this practice does not correspond to modern achievements in the field of animal husbandry, nor to the recommendations of the European Food Safety Authority, according to which the practice of raising calves in cages should be discontinued and the animals should be raised in small groups and with more space.
