President Rumen Radev will convene the Council on National Security to discuss Bulgaria's position towards North Macedonia and to seek consensus with all political parties in the National Assembly. This was announced by the head of state in Brussels.

"Bulgaria will open the door to North Macedonia only after guarantees and protection of our national interest, including constitutional protection of Macedonian Bulgarians, rejection of hate speech and guarantees for the irreversibility of this process," President Radev pointed out.

He said the government was working on a full analysis on “why we have come to the point where Bulgaria is completely unable to say 'yes'." I call on the Bulgarian parliament to initiate a structured dialogue with the Republic of North Macedonia, in order to find the best solutions and open the doors to EU Membership as soon as possible," Radev also told reporters.
