Four Eurofighter EF-2000 Typhoon II aircraft from the Air Force of the Kingdom of Spain landed today, February 11, at Graf Ignatievo Air Base in Bulgaria, the Ministry of Defence announced. Until March 31, 2022, 130 Spanish servicemen will perform tasks of enhanced airspace protection (Air Policing) together with their colleagues from the Bulgarian Air Force.

When performing the joint tasks of Air Policing, the Bulgarian fighter jets on duty will be used as a priority.
The mission is implementing measures to ensure the security of NATO's Eastern Flank member countries and will be implemented under the plans and procedures of the Alliance's Integrated Air and Missile Defense System (NATINAMDS). The ministry clarifies that the protection of NATO airspace is a peacetime collective defense mission.
