More than 936,000 pensioners in Bulgaria receive minimal pensions. According to the statistics of the National Social Insurance Institute, over half a million of them get the minimum pension for length of service and age, which last year was 580.57 levs /290 euros/.
When the actual amount of the pension is below the minimum, the solidarity pension system pays extra to reach it. Last year, such an extra payment was made for nearly 800,000 pensioners, totalling over 130 million levs per month.
Pension payments at the expense of the State Social Insurance are over 21 billion levs per year and the number of pensioners is about 2 million people. For 2024, the average pension is 883 leva /440 euros/.
